Science
Our aims...
Our science curriculum helps children develop curiosity about the world around them. Through learning about biology, chemistry and physics, pupils build a strong understanding of important scientific ideas.
Children are encouraged to ask questions, investigate and explore, helping them understand how science works and how scientists find answers.
We focus on developing practical scientific skills, so children learn by doing. This approach helps them see how science is relevant to everyday life and prepares them to understand the role science will play in their future
What Science looks like at Brook Acre
- We are building on our prior understanding in every lesson.
- We use scientific vocabulary to explain our thoughts and knowledge of a topic.
- We apply our ‘Working Scientifically skills’ to solve problems, explore, observe and investigate.
-
Our learning is enhanced by outdoor learning, specialist visitors and we have access to quality resources.
-
Science has a wow factor and promotes a sense of awe and wonder.
-
We are involved in creating and carrying out investigations and can share and explain our ideas and conclusions.
-
We ask questions and work together to discover the answers.
Science Day 2026
Wednesday 11th March 2026
The Brook Acre Science ambassadors launced Science week by leading an assembly to both parents and the chidren, introducing the theme of Science week: Curiosity.
We had a lovely morning, when we invited our parents and carers into school to join their children in their science lesson. There was a buzz of excitement around the school as science experiments were being conducted around the classrooms. Thank you as always to our parents and carers for your engagement and your lovely comments. The children really look forward to these sessions as we’re sure you do, too.
Feedback from the session:
- ‘Loved seeing all the children engaging in the activities and bouncing ideas around’
- ‘Super fun and creative lesson. Amazing to see my child so engaged’
- ‘It was really fun to see how the children learn and explore the world around them’
- ‘Beautiful moments with the kids doing something special and they smiled at each other; teamwork built their confidence and shows them how talented and smart they are’.
