Reading Workshop 2025

Monday 6 October

Thank you to our parents and carers who joined us for our reading workshop on Monday. There was a lovely atmosphere as the children shared their books and demonstrated their love of reading. We can’t thank you enough for taking the time to show your support to the children and to our school. We hope you found the session useful and were able to take away some good ideas to put into practice at home. Thank you for your lovely feedback which is always appreciated.

Some lovely feed back from parents:

My child's love for learning & school has returned since starting at Brook Acre which is just amazing.

Gave me some new ideas to try at home!

I'm so proud of how much progress has been made with my children.

Loved being a part of this workshop. Loved reading with the kids. Learning with them and all the laughs.

Very well taught. Thank you for allowing us parents to whitness these learning techniques.

We had a fantastic and memorable Sports Day in EYFS on Wednesday! The event went off without a hitch, and the children were all absolute superstars. They took part in a wide range of fun and engaging races, proudly showcasing their growing confidence, coordination, and physical skills. One of the standout moments of the day was the parent egg and spoon race, which brought lots of laughter and excitement as the children cheered on their families. World Book Day 2025

Thursday 6 March

What a gorgeous day we had on Thursday when children came to school dressed as a character from their favourite book.  We started off the day with an assembly where staff acted out scenes from the book ‘Go to sleep Anxiety’. Then the children spent the day taking part in themed activities.  Older children read stories with younger children, and they got the chance to be creative in the afternoon, some making their own bookmarks. Thank you to our staff, parents and carers for the huge effort made with costumes.  The children really do enjoy taking part in this special day where we all get to share the joy of reading!

FS1 Library Visit 2025

Thursday 13 February

FS1 had a fantastic experience on their first trip outside of nursery to the local library! The children were absolute superstars, engaging with excitement and curiosity. We had the opportunity to listen to the librarian read a story, and the children were delighted to explore the books.  It was a memorable adventure that will help spark their love for reading!

Year 4 Winter Warmer 2025

Thursday 30 Jan - Saturday 1 Fabruary

Year 4 went on their Winter warmer where they took part in many activities led by Active Hope including bread making, rock climbing, exploring the Dingle Forest, a night hike and a chippy tea in the forest followed by a sleepover at school. All children’s behaviour was fantastic, and fun was had by all children and staff involved. It was lovely to see the year 4's team building skills and resilience in full force as they tackled group tasks like orienteering. It was an extremely muddy, fun filled 3 days which ended with smores around the campfire and memories to last forever!

Santa Visit FS/KS1 2024

Friday 13 December

We had a very special visitor at school, the one and only Father Christmas! We heard the jingle of his bells and then shared a fabulous story called T'was the Night After Christmas. He took lots of time out of his VERY busy schedule to spend some time with all of the children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, delivering presents and checking the children of Brook Acre were on the nice list. It sounds like all of his elves are going to have a busy couple of weeks in the workshop! Key Stage 2 felt some of the Christmas magic too, with a special delivery. The children were all kind, respectful and well-mannered making sure our visitor enjoyed his visit at our school.

Polar Express Day 2024

Tuesday 10 December

What a gorgeous day we had on Tuesday when we came to school in our pyjamas for the Polar Express Experience!  We were greeted at school by the train conductors who stamped our golden tickets.  Then we did some christmas themed arts, crafts and activities. There was a real buzz of excitement in the air as we spent the afternoon getting comfy, drinking our hot chocolate with marshmallows,  while watching the Polar Express on our big screens.  We thoroughly enjoyed the day and made the most of getting into the christmas spirit.

Maths Workshop 2024

Wednesday 6 November

We had a lovely morning on Wednesday when parents and carers were invited to join us for a maths workshop.  Mr Murdoch delivered a short presentation in the hall and then families were able to join in with the children in their classrooms to get a deeper understanding of how maths is taught at our school. The children were so excited to share their learning with their grown-ups and we were delighted with how many of you joined us for the event.  We hope you took away some valuable information and ideas from the session.

On Friday 18th October we all took part in our annual colour run.  What an amazing afternoon it was! The weather held out and it was gorgeous to see the children laughing and smiling as they ran or walked around our track and field, some choosing to be covered in powder paint to raise money for Cancer research UK.  We are delighted to announce we raised a spectacular £584.00. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our parents and carers and everyone who donated to such a worthwhile charity.

World Mental Health Day 2024

Thursday 10 September

Thursday certainly brightened up the week with children and staff being invited to wear yellow to recognise World Mental Health day. The children completed lots of different activities throughout the day including yoga, happy breathing and craft and colouring to help recognise how we can calm our minds and regulate our emotions. Our children are really skilled at recognising their emotions and know the importance of caring for their mental health. It was lovely to see the children being a part of different activities throughout school.
