Governance At Brook Acre
The Governing Body at Brook Acre currently has 10 Governors, 2 Parent Governors, 1 LA Governor, 1 Staff Governor, 5 Co-opted Governors, 1 Headteacher Governor.
The Full Governing Body meets each term. Its overall purpose is to ensure the clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school. The Chair of Governors is Mary Chuck. Reports are received from the Headteacher, relating to the activities and progress at the school, particularly in relation to the School Improvement Plan for the Year, and from each of the Committees. Where appropriate, these reports may be challenged to ensure that the high standards and expectations of the school are maintained.
The Governance Structure was re-constituted in 2015 and reviewed again in 2016 following an internal and external audit. The 2016-17 structure will be reviewed again in 2017 to ensure that Governance, led by Governors, is effective, well informed and transparent.
The Finance and Assets Committee meets once a term. Its remit is to oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent, and includes effective use of the school resources and the performance management of staff. In 2016-17 the Finance Committee is chaired by Chris Smaller. Mary Chuck, Jo Holmes and Joan Bennett are also members of that committee.
The Standards Committee meets once a term. Its remit is to hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils. In 2016 the Standards Committee is chaired by Mary Chuck. Chris Smaller, Cheryl Watkins, Andrew Moorcroft and Hannah Andrews are also members of that committee.
The Link Governors Group
This is a newly formed group this year. Its remit is to develop the role of the Link Governors in engaging with the subject leaders, whilst being aware of the School Improvement Priorities for the year. Lynn Bristow, Ivor Sobers, Paul Brown and Cheryl Watkins are currently members of this group.
