PSHE At Brook Acre

At Brook Acre we explore the PSHE curriculum in a fun and interactive way.  We follow the ‘Jigsaw’ scheme of work to ensure we have full coverage of the curriculum from Foundation Stage through to Year 6. We have themed weeks during the year where we focus on Healthy eating and lifestyles and positive mental wellbeing.

Each year group follows these topics over the course of the academic year:

  • Being me in my world
  • Celebrating Differences
  • Dreams and Goals
  • Healthy Me
  • Relationship
  • Changing Me

We are an inclusive school where everybody is welcome and we ensure that this is portrayed in all that we do.

Peer Learning

This year we have been developing a new angle to our PSHE curriculum in the form of Rainbow Groups.  Rainbow group time is when our Year 6 children (who have already become experts in specific PSHE topics) take to the classroom to teach and develop discussions with younger children in all classes throughout Key Stage 1 and 2.  The younger children are responding exceptionally well and very much look forward to their rainbow lessons and Year 6 students have certainly risen to the challenge and responsibility of educating others (whilst acknowledging how tricky it can be getting a chatty group of youngsters back ready to listen J)

From antibullying to charity fundraising this model further raises the profiel of key issues and develops a new angle to the discussions and thinking.
